A Return Trip Home

Once again, the group, now with Ellen, Diane, Alex and Janet, reached the lobby of the police station and split up. Diane moved to a window, while Alex and Ellen stood in front of the receptionist's counter, talking. Kate was again staring at the statue, while Yuki seemed to just be looking around. Janet looked at the lobby in disgust. Frank glanced around, and didn't see Tellka anywhere. He figured she must be in her spirit form, and was still ticked about that fight.

Frank looked at the handgun on his hip, then at Janet, who just scowled at him. Apparently, she had accepted the fact that there were demons in the station, but she was still skeptical about the entire Lunarvale thing.

As Frank approached Janet, she started to speak.

"It's your fault!" She seemed to yell at him.

"Huh? What are you talking about?" Frank countered.

"Look... I just want to go home... This has nothing to do with me..." She said fiercely.

"All right... I give. What's wrong now?!" Frank said in an equal tone.

"I nearly got killed back there, because you failed to kill a demon, you stupid twit!" Janet punctuated her sentence with an accusing finger.

Frank sighed. "Look... I went nuts, trying to figure out how to kill it... and when I did... I didn't bother to see if it was dead... I'm sorry..." Janet just answered by raising her head.

Frank shook his head, and unbuckled the holster from his waist. "Here... take this. It may keep you safe."

Janet looked at the semi-auto, and took it reluctantly. "You expect me to protect myself with this thing? Honestly... where's the revolver chamber?"

"It's semi automatic... you reload it like this." Frank took the gun from her, ejected the empty clip, put a new one in, and racked the slide. Janet looked at him in shock. Apparently, she had never dealt with firearms like the ones in his world.

"You saw what I did, right?" Frank asked as he thumbed the safety lever on the Beretta.

Janet just nodded as she took the gun from Frank and reholstered it. Frank moved to talk to Diane as Janet was busy fumbling with the utility belt and holster.

"Lookit all the fog..." Diane said to no one in particular.

"Jeez... it's still bad out there..." Frank said quietly. Diane turned to Frank.

"Frank... don't take this the wrong way... but... your home town kinda sucks..." She said with a smirk. Frank just laughed.

"It wasn't like this before... honest." Frank said in defense, drawing a chuckle from Diane.

"Wha' was it like before?" She asked before returning her attention to some of the buildings in the city.

Frank crossed his arms. "Well... it was a nice place to live... it was a normal city of sorts..."

Diane turned back to Frank and nodded. He smiled briefly, and considered talking to Alex and Ellen, but decided not to and just let them spend time together.

Yuki approached Frank. "They're your friends, right?"

"Yeah, Yuki. They're normal citizens of the world we were sent to... We're in this together..."

Yuki smiled. "I believe you... seems like they all trust you... except for that one girl over there. " She said as she made a gesture toward Janet, who just hmphed.

"Look... when we get to Joy Street... why don't you and Ellen tell Brad and me about Windia... and what's been going on. We're curious..." Frank answered Yuki with a simple nod, and approached Kate, who was now playing with a small device while stealing glances at the cat statue.

To Frank's amazement, he heard a purr coming from Kate, then an eep as she dropped said device.

"Frank? Was that good? Or..." Kate said as she pointed at the machine on the floor. Frank picked it up and his eyes went wide.

"A GPS unit..." Frank said quietly. Kate looked at him and twitched an ear in confusion.

"GPS???" She asked. Frank nodded.

"Global Positioning Satellite." Frank said as he examined a 3-D map of Lunarvale. "Think of it as a high tech map." Kate slowly nodded and watched Frank put the GPS in his pocket.

"All right... we'd better get going... Brad's waiting for us at the Joy Street Shopping District... Ready to go?" Frank asked.

There were mixed reactions from the group. Ellen and Alex were ready, as well as Diane. Janet just muttered something under her breath, while Yuki crossed her arms slightly as she nodded. Kate nodded, but did so shakily.

"All right... let's get going..." Frank said as he approached the front door. Kate was instantly beside him as the group of students entered the demon- infested city.

"Wow... would you look at the buildings..." Alex said to no one in particular as he stared at the office building shrouded in fog.

"A lot of buildings are like that, Alex... there are some that are even taller than those..." Ellen grinned as she saw Alex's mouth drop in shock.

More comments were heard from Frank's group on how different things were in Lunarvale, than in Windia. The group stayed on guard, when Frank suddenly stopped.

"I hear something, Frank... like something's in pain..." Kate said as she tugged on his arm.

"I heard it too... But I can't tell where it's coming from..." Frank said quietly. It was then that Diane spoke up.

"Over there... From under tha' thing..." She said as she pointed to an overturned compact car.

"Diane, Yuki, and I will stand guard. Why don't you and Alex try and move it?" Ellen asked.

Alex nodded, and he and Frank went over to the hatchback to try and lift it. Out of the corner of his eye, Frank saw Janet and Kate talking.

"Honestly, Kate... why do you hang out with... them..." Janet started. Kate looked to the ground before answering.

"They're my friends, Janet. I don't want to see them get hurt." Before Janet could reply, Kate said something else.

"Janet... please try and work with all of us. We want to go back as much as you-"

"Frank and that girl are back home! Why should we get involved in something that doesn't even have anything to do with us!"

Kate looked down. "They're not at home anymore... Ellen wants to live her life out in Windia... And Frank... has no family here..."

Janet was about to say something else, when she noticed that Kate had a few tears in her eyes. She decided for once to shut her trap.

"Whoa... look at this!" Alex cried out as soon as he and Frank had moved the car.

"What?" Ellen asked as she looked over.

"She's barely alive..." Frank said as he began to summon his Persona.
