Life at Windian High (Part 2)

Lucy sighed to Janet was the two girls were making their way towards the stage where Frank and his friends were practicing. Their band, the Blazing Dragons, was getting ready to play for the dance and Lucy and Janet could hear their songs as they were walking towards the auditorium. They had entered the room just as Frank and his friends were starting up a new song, and sat in the back, listening with interest. Now that the song was over, the two windians were making their way over to speak to Frank and his friends. Janet had some unfinished business that she had started during lunch but never finished. Lucy shrugged her shoulders and turned to her friend.

"But isn't it a bit late to ask? I mean, it's already Wednesday and the dance is this Friday."

"Well, it's not going to get any earlier." Janet rolled her eyes before calling up to the stage. "Hey Frank!"

"Yea?" Frank glanced up, spotting Lucy and Janet standing below the stage. "Hey! Lucy, Janet! What can I do for you two?"

"Um... Frank..." Janet chewed her lower lip as she leaned up against the stage. "I know this is kind of late to ask... but... what with the WINGS being gone and all, and this upcoming dance..." Janet paused as Lucy elbowed her lightly in the rubs and windian sighed. "Alright, to make a long story short, do you think Lucy and I could join the Blazing Dragons? Please? I mean, we used to sing and play in WINGS so much it just seems so odd to not be in a bad, especially during a school dance..."

Frank considered the two windians for a moment before flashing a grin and shrugging. "I don't have a problem with it. What about you guys?" He shot a glance at his other band members. Alex's tail was waving slightly as he shrugged.

"I don't mind! Ellie?" The woren glanced over at his girlfriend. Ellen just shook her head.

"It's okay with me... though Nate..."

Frank nodded. "We'll deal with Nate later. What about you, Brad?"

"No problem here!" Brad grinned. "Heck, I know it's just because of me that you want to join!" The Persona User flashed a V for victory and Janet and Lucy exchanged bored glances. Frank sighed.

"Brad..."

"Shut up!" Ellen rolled her eyes. Brad fidgeted uneasily and rubbed the back of his neck.

"Aww... you're no fun..."

Sonya was still sitting on Chris' shoulder. The little pixie just shook her head. "He'll never learn..."

"Anyway." Frank turned back to the two windians. "So it looks like you two are in!"

"Great!" Janet grinned. "In that case, we've already got a couple of songs that we'd like to practice," Janet pulled up her backpack and began to shuffle through it. "We've got the music here... Lucy and I both chose our own songs to sing."

"Heh..." Frank chuckled. "You two just came prepared didn't you?"

Janet rolled her eyes as she hopped up onto the stage. "Always be ready, right? Anyway," the windian began handing out sheets of music to the band members. "I used to run the old WINGS band. It's not like this is new to me or anything."

Frank chuckled again as he looked over the music. "Everywhere, huh? Alright then, let's give this a try. On your cue, Janet."

The windian nodded and tapped her foot lightly before motioning for the band to start playing. Soon after Janet began to sing.

Turn it inside out so I can see
The part of you that's drifting over me
And when I wake you're never there
But when I sleep, you're everywhere
You're everywhere

Just tell me how I got this far
Just tell me why you're here and who you are
'Cause every time I look you're never there
And every time I sleep you're always there

'Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I close my eyes it's you I see
You're everything I know that makes me believe
I'm not alone, whoa whoa
I'm not alone

I recognize the way you make me feel
It's hard to think that you might not be real
I sense it now, the water's getting deep
I try to wash the pain away from me
Away from me

'Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I close my eyes it's you I see
You're everything I know that makes me believe
I'm not alone, whoa whoa
I'm not alone

And when I touch your hand
It's then I understand
The beauty that's within
It's now that we begin
You always light my way
I hope there never comes a day
No matter where I go
I always feel you so

'Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I close my eyes it's you I see
You're everything I know that makes me believe
I'm not alone, whoa whoa
I'm not alone

'Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I catch my breath it's you I breathe
You're everything I know that makes me believe
I'm not alone, whoa whoa

Oh, you're in everyone I see
So tell me,
Do you see me?

As the song ended, Janet could hear her friends clapping.

"Hey," Frank smiled at the windian. "Janet, that was really great."

Janet chuckled and offered a bow to the others in the auditorium. "Thanks. Anyway, Lucy? You ready?"

"Hrm?" The raven-haired windian looked up from where she was scanning over a sheet of music. "Hm? Oh, yea." She stood up, glancing down at her paper once more as she stepped up onto the stage. "I really don't need any back-up for this. Just need to borrow the piano." Lucy waited as the others slowly cleared the stage and she made her way over to sit down at the piano, setting up her music on the stand as she did so. The windian let out a light sigh and glanced from the music to the piano, her eyes slowly taking a far off look.

Last time I was up here... Brandon... I remember you were sitting out there in the audience, I was up here at the piano... Landon, it seems like only yesterday. The windian swallowed lightly and blinked, feeling tears tugging at her eyes. She knew that from the audience, no one could see the emotion in her face. Lucy straightened up in her seat and composed herself normally. Anyone watching wouldn't have been able to tell the real emotions that the windian was feeling, it was all hidden away, underneath her calm exterior. No one could tell, unless they listened to the message in her song. Brandon... this one is dedicated to you. I miss you so much... I know I'll get on with life, I have been, but it will never be the same without you here. Landon, if heaven has ears, I hope all of it hears this just for you. The windian then began to play a quiet and slow tune on the piano.

Spend all your time waiting
For that second chance
For the break that will make it okay
There's always some reason
To feel not good enough
And it's hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction
Or a beautiful release
Memories seep through my veins
Let me be empty
And weightless and maybe
I'll find some peace tonight

In the arms of the Angel
Far away from here
From this dark, cold hotel room
And the endlessness that you feel
You are pulled from the wreckage
Of your silent reverie
You're in the arms of the Angel
May you find some comfort here

So tired of the straight line
And everywhere you turn
There's vultures and thieves at your back
The storm keeps on twisting
You keep on building the lies
That you make up for all that you lack
It don't make no difference
Escape one last time
It's easier to believe
In this sweet madness
Oh this glorious sadness
That brings me to my knees

In the arms of the Angel
Far away from here
From this dark, cold hotel room
And the endlessness that you feel
You are pulled from the wreckage
Of your silent reverie
You're in the arms of the Angel
May you find some comfort here
In the arms of the Angel
May you find some comfort here.

The room was silent as Lucy finished up her song. The windian wiped away a few tears that had escaped from her eyes as she heard quiet clapping start up. There Brandon, that one was for you. The windian sighed and picked her sheet music up as she went to stand up.

"You shouldn't cry Lucy, it gets in the way of your beautiful singing voice."

Lucy's eyes went wide as she looked around. "Brandon?" She spoke her brother's name quietly, no one in the audience could hear her questioning call as they talked to each other about the dance. Lucy swallowed for a moment as she continued to look around. She had definitely heard his voice. But how? The windian paused as a sort of calmness fell over her. So Brandon had heard her singing. Lucy felt a smile tugging at her lips and once again tears began to pool around her eyes. Only this time, they weren't tears of sadness. Lucy stepped off the stage and was greeted by Janet who gave her an excited hug.

"You were great! This dance is going to be a blast!" Lucy smiled in reply to her friend as Frank announced the finish of practice for the day. The teens gathered up their things and left the auditorium, each going their seperate ways.
