Life at Windian High (Part 2)

"Oh you have no idea," Kristeen helped Britney slide on her coat as she fawned over brushing the little dragon's bright blue hair at the same time. "How helpfull you are," She grabbed Britney's lunchbox and backpack, helping the little dragon get sorted. "To do this for me." The Tunlan woman then placed a huge kiss on the tiny dragon's cheek and jumped up, grabbing her own coat and purse. "I'm in such a hurry it would have been impossible for me to get her to school today and with Ray having already left you were just the last person I could ask and I'm so glad you'd do this thankyousomuch!" Kristeen gave a final wave and rushed out the front door.

Jason and Britney were standing right next to each other as they watched the flustered woman leave. Very slowly, they turned to give each other confused glances as the door slammed shut behind Kristeen. "So...." Jason started quietly.

"Can Phen come!?" Her blue pigtails bouncing, the little dragon tugged Jason's sleeve questioningly as she gazed up at him with large eyes. "Pleeeeeeaaaase?"

"No, Little Bit." Jason pulled his sleeve out of her tiny grasp. "Phen can't go to school with you."

"Why not?"

"Because you're teacher would probably freak out."

"What if it's Show and Tell today?"

"No."

"Please????"

"Get your lunch box and let's go."

"Aw..." Britney plucked up her lunch box and turned to wave a goodbye to Phen who was standing near the stairs. The little JackFrost ran up and gave her a hug.

"Hi ho! Have a good day Britney, ho!"

"I will!" The little dragon giggled and returned the ice demon's hug before she turned and headed to the front door with Jason. The windian opened the front door, took a step outside, and stopped in his tracks.

"...... ow......"Jason was rubbing his squinted eyes painfully before carefully opening them and blinking rapidly, waiting for them to adjusted to the sunny day.

"Are you alright?" Britney just looked up at him in wonder. Jason nodded.

"I'm fine, just haven't been outside in a while. I guess the house is a lot darker then I thought it was." He shook his head, finally comfortable with the brightness of the outside world, and he and Britney started towards the Windian Elementary school. The walk there wasn't too hard. Even though Jason himself never had younger siblings to walk to the school with, he still knew the way. He had taken the route many times with David when going to pick up the wrester's little sister. Britney was currently skipping happily infront of Jason, stopping every so often to look at a flower or a strange bug, but she never wandered too far from the windian. After a few minutes, the duo ended up infront of the school and the little dragon ran over to Jason, giving him a quick hug.

"Thank you for taking me to school!"

"No problem. Your brother should be here to pick you up after school."

"Why don't you ever pick me up from school?" Britney stared up at Jason questioningly. He just shook his head at her.

"I don't know." Because the last time I stopped by here after school to pick you up, I ended up ripping apart a couple of other guys instead. "Maybe I will sometime. Get to class, Brit." Jason motioned towards the school and gave the little dragon a push. He watched as she raced towards the school, soon losing her in a large cluster of children who were playing infront of the school. With a sigh, Jason turned and began to walk away.

He wasn't exactly aiming to get back home, he was just walking. The red-haired windian was lost in thought as he headed down the streets of Windia, thoughts of times before, thoughts of people before, Chad and David... With a mutter, he began to run his thumb over his fingertips in agitation. The fuckers... this all could have been different...

Days like today, bright warm days, those were the days when the Windian Trio would be out just having fun. Those days would never happen again. There was something inside of Jason that pained whenever he thought about his lost friends. Sometimes he couldn't tell if he was angry at their memories, or sad, or anything at all, but inside of him he could feel a hole of emptiness, and it grew everytime he thought about them. Fucking..... I need to think of something else... That's right Burnhart, just think about something else, ignore it all, and it will go away. He knew it was a lie, it wouldn't go away if he just ignored it, but lie or not, it sounded like a really good idea. The windian glanced up as his surroundings in hopes of anything that could attract his attention and distract him from his thoughts.

He found himself standing beside the library. Curiousity perked as he made his way around the large building and towards the back. He wasn't sure what drew him to look, but he could remember that there was something interesting behind the library, even if he didn't know what. The windian hopped the small fence that surrounded the building and looked around for anything interesting. Sure enough, he found something.

"No Entry." Jason nodded and looked up at the building infront of him. "The Windian Library's back room." He, David and Chad had once visited this plays out of sheer curiosity. Chad had commented on what might be found in the back room of a library, of all things, and the trio then moved to find out. Jason could remember finding a certain book in that room, and now that he stood outside of the 'No Entry' door, he wondered if that book, and possibly others was still in there. The windian tentatively tried the door knob to see if it would open.

It was locked.

Jason let out a sigh and let go of the knob before taking a seat against the brick wall of the building, thinking about what to do next. Something in the grass caught his attention, and he looked down to see a paper clip on the ground near him. After a moment of thought, he snatched the paper clip, stood up, went back to the door knob and attempted something that he had seen David do many times before. It took him a couple of minutes, but the windian finally managed to unlock the door, and soon he was out of the bright glare of the sun and inside the dark musty room that was the Windian Library's back room.

"Spellbound..." It didn't take him long to find the leatherbound book wedged into one of the many shelves in the room. The windian glanced over it carefully and flipped it open to a random page, looking at its contents. Jason drummed his fingers lightly in thought as he closed the book and looked around. Maybe there's something else of interest in here. The windian took two steps forward and stopped.

From somewhere close by, he could hear footsteps. Shooting a glance around the room, he spotted another door against the opposite wall. Must be the door that leads into the library itself. He kept his eye on that very door as he began to retreat back to the way he had entered. The footsteps were definitly approaching from that direction. Soon enough Jason was back outside, closing the 'No Entry' door carefully as he listened to the sound of someone entering the back room from the second door. The windian sighed and glanced down at the book he still held in his hands. With a shrug, he tucked it into his coat, hopped the steel fence, and headed back home.
