Life at Windian High (Part 2)

Ray Bendrel and Lucy Conwing were currently heading over to their friend Janet's house it pick her up before the dance. Ray was wearing a dark brown dress suit, as well as a white dress shirt underneath it. Lucy was wearing a long white dressed that seemed to shimmer and flow behind her, and a small brown coat to protect her from the cold windian night. As the two walked, Lucy smiled up at her boyfriend.

"So, what's it like to actually be going to this dance as yourself?"

Ray blushed. He knew what she was refering to. Last time the school had some sort of dance, Diane passed Ray off as a friend from Plainsfield, and the dragon changed his hair and eye color, as well as his name for the night. "It's alright I guess, now that I don't have the WINGS to worry about." The two continued to walk silently until Ray turned to his girlfriend, considering her for a moment before finally asking, "do you ever miss them? WINGS I mean?"

Lucy seemed a bit caught off guard by the question, and she didn't respond right away, just thinking for a moment as the two walked. Finally she answered, although still rather thoughtfully. "Well I don't know... I mean... Janet and I still hang out, and she was my best friend in WINGS... and Brandon, of course I miss him..." her voice trailed off with a quiet sigh and Ray looked down at his girlfriend in concern and worry.

"Are you alright?"

Lucy shook her head. "I'm fine. I just... sometimes I wonder... it's like we were cursed or something.."

"What do you mean?"

"Well... you know what happened to my brother... and the troubles that have been happening to Janet... Jason and the Red Bird, David and Chad vanishing.... it's just so odd, it was like our entire group was just marked or something." She went silent again for a few moments before finally looking up at the stars and began musing outloud once more. "It must be hard for Jason, those three were always together.. as close as me and Brandon even. I wonder what happened to them? It was like they just vanished..."

Ray swallowed. Of course he knew what happened to them. He could still remember that talk he had with Jason, how he'd told the red-haired windian that he wouldn't reveal any of it to the girls. The dragon moved to try and change the subject without making it too obvious. "So what were they like?"

"Who? Chad and David?" Lucy though for a moment. "Well, they really weren't that bad. Those three together, although annoying, were something to see. Chad was always coming up with the strangest ideas and ways to pull them off.. Jason could always bail them out of trouble when they got into any, and David was ready to take on anyone and anything that tried to stop them." She chuckled lightly. "It's really odd to even think about when Jason didn't know those two.."

"What do you mean?" Ray raised an eyebrow curiously.

"Well, Justin was the one who introduced David and Chad to WINGS. Since both David and Justin were wrestlers, they'd already known each other for a while, and the three used to always hang out. Although you could tell Chad felt a bit alienated. David and Justin had so much in common, Chad was just there for the ride most of the time. When Jason appeared, that was a change. Chad just clung to him instantly."

"Really?" Ray chuckled, a bit interested as Lucy nodded.

"Oh yea, Jason really did something to the guy. I can remember back when Chad used to be so quiet, so reserved," she grinned and let out a laugh, "if you could really believe that." She looked up at her boyfriend who just flashed her a clueless look. Lucy cleared her throat, "that's right.. I guess you wouldn't know since you never.. really saw that side of WINGS." She paused for just a moment. "Anyway, Chad met Jason and those two just clicked, it seemed like they had so much in common. Really though, Chad nearly worshipped him."

"You're joking?"

Lucy shook her head. "I'm not.. I still remember one time when we were walking through Windian Park. We'd left the trails and ended up in the more wooded area, and Brandon mentioned we should turn around. Well, we found a fence out there with a sign on it that read 'do not tresspass' and naturally the three were just immediatly drawn to it. I remember it, Chad approached it somewhat timidly, you could tell he wanted to see what was beyond it but he wasn't too sure." She let out a little chuckle. "David immediatly rushed up to the fence and tried to peer past it. But Jason..." a laugh escaped her lips and she shook her head. "Dear dear Jason.. rushed the fence, vaulting it, and immediatly went crashing and vanishing behind it with a splash." A huge grin was on Lucy's face as the memory ran through her head. Ray, caught off guard by the splash she mentioned, turned and gave her a wondering look. Lucy just raised her gaze at him, the grin still on her face.

"... behind the gate was someone's septic pond... Jason leapt right into it."

"You're kidding??" Ray just started laughing. "That must have been some scene.."

"That was some smell!" Lucy just shook her head. "But really, ever since then, Chad always worshipped the guy. You could see it the way he looked at Jason, the way he acted around him. Chad was always withdrawn, always thoughtfull, he liked how Jason could be spontanious, how he could do things without worrying about the consiquences. With Jason he really connected, sort of like David did with Justin, up until Justin started getting more into sports and less into friendships." Lucy shrugged as she once again gazed up at the sky. "The three weren't that bad though, even when they were annoying the heck out of everyone." She giggled again. "Janet especially, Jason was always trying to step on her toes, to challenge her leadership." She shrugged. ".... it's sort of strange to think back to WINGS like this." She gazed up at the sky again. "I guess... thinking about things that can never be again..." The two stopped infront of one of the fountains that adorned Upper Windia and Lucy turned her gaze to the house they were infront of.

"Well, we're here." She smiled at Ray. "Just wait here, I'll go get her." The windian gave her boyfriend a light kiss before heading up to the mansion to retrieve her friend.
