Life at Windian High (Part 2)

After leaving the stage, it wasn't too hard to find Ray. The only person with the bright blue hair, Lucy thought to herself as a smirk played at her lips. He really did stand out, but she was glad no one seemed to be giving him a hard time at the dance. Come to think of it, I think WINGS was always most of the problem for him... sure other people might not like dragons but our group had been the most vocal about it... she pushed her thoughts away as she flipped her hair lightly with her hand and stepped over to where Ray was standing near the wall, waiting for her. The raven-haired windian walked up and kissed him in greeting. "Miss me?"

"You sounded nice." Ray smiled, blushing just lightly. The dragon soon began to rub the back of his neck and shift his weight around uneasily, and Lucy noticed him cast a glance at the auditorium doors.

"Ray?" She raised an eyebrow curiously at the dragon. "Is something wrong?"

He just sighed. "I think you need to go find Janet." That earned another curious look, and he nodded towards the auditorium exit. "I saw her go storming out of here just a few seconds ago, she looked really upset..."

"You're kidding?" Lucy sighed and shook her head. "Ladon, what could have happened to her?" It was then that she glanced back up at the stage and noticed the woren who was standing close to Brad. Ray got to witness the look that every female gets when she suddenly understands just what is wrong with her best friend, and instinctively he leaned back a little to give his girlfriend some room as she began her frantic rush to find Janet. "Ray I'm sorry but I'll be right back, I really really need to talk to her." The speech was hurried, and so was the goodbye kiss, and the next instant all he could see were the auditorium doors swinging shut behind the vanished windian. The dragon just sighed, shrugged, and took a sip from his drink as he listened to The Blazing Dragons start up on stage.

"All of the classrooms are locked..." Lucy sighed as she headed down the halls of Windian High. "I don't think she'd actually have left the school, so Janet... there's got to be only one place you've gone to..." She quickened her pace as she headed towards the end of the hallway and the doors to the balcony. Sure enough, she could see Janet's form outlined by the moonlight through the glass doors. Quietly, she pushed open the doors and stepped outside. Although she was trying to be quiet, Lucy could still hear her crying and sniffling as she hunched over the railing.

"Janet?"

Janet wiped her eyes quickly with a sniff and stood up, clearing her throat as she attempted to calm down. "What?" Her friend stepped up beside her, but she didn't turn to meet her.

"Ray saw you rush out here. What's wrong?"

Janet didn't say anything. She just stared out over the Windian High courtyard as a small wind swirled by, ruffling her hair and dress a little bit. Lucy waited a minute more before trying again.

"It's because of that girl I saw with Brad, isn't it?"

That was all she needed to say. Janet whirled around, tears burning in her eyes as she looked at her friend. "It's not fair Lucy!" Her voice was frantic with anger, and once again tears were streaming down her cheeks. "He asked ME, he literally begged me to come to this dance with him, and already I find him KISSING someone he just MET! Ladon he just....." she shook her head.. almost too overcome with emotion to speak as she continued to cry freely. "Lucy he just blew me off! Just like that!"

"Well Janet.." Lucy sighed lightly and put a calm hand on her friends shoulder. "You didn't come here as Brad's date.. just as his friend, remember? It's not like he's cheating on you..."

"But that still doesn't give him the right to just go off and find a girlfriend in the middle of the night!" Janet wiped her eyes again and turned to stare out over the courtyard once more. She was doing her best to stop crying, but it wasn't that easy. "Ladon Lucy... I don't know..." She let out a loud sigh and closed her eyes for a moment, sniffing. "I know I'm not his girlfriend, he has a right to find someone but...... LADON!" She smacked the railing of the balconey roughly with her hand. "Does he have to be so INCONSIDERATE to do it tonight of all nights?? He came to this dance with ME and now he's already off with some other chick! Why did he even bother asking me???"

"Janet.." Lucy sighed, her friend as becoming more frantic by the moment. She attempted to reach out and put an arm around her for comforting, but Janet just shook her head and continued ranting.

"I mean, I've had enough of this shit recently! I just got out of this crap with Justin! I don't need more guys screwing me over every chance they get! What?? What is it? Is no one happy with just hanging around me? Am I like some stepping stone??? They go from me to the next chick that happens along? Is that it??" She hit the railing agian and pulled her hand back up quickly, rubbing it.

"Calm down! Getting mad like this isn't going to solve anything!" Lucy sighed. "Janet I know you're upset but you can't just let this ruin your night."

"What the HELL am I supposed to do Lucy?" Janet gave her friend a fiery look. "Go back in there and watch my 'date' dance with his new girlfriend? Stare at all the happy couples as they dance together? Oh, I know! I'll go find Justin and Candice and hang out with them! That will really make my night!" Janet looked away again, attempting to blink back some more tears as she shook her head and lowered it, leaning against the rail. "Just go back inside Lucy, I'm sure Ray misses you."

Lucy sighed once more, brushing a few strands out of her face as she watched her friend. She knew what Janet was like when she got upset like this, it was better to give her some time to herself, at least for a little while. "Tell you what, I'll leave you alone for a little while, but if you're not back in the auditorium by the end of this next song that's playing, I'm coming right back out here to keep you company, alright?" She gave her friend a comforting pat on the shoulder. "I'll be back Janet, I don't plan on letting you spend this night alone. Try and cheer up?" As the windian headed back inside, she turned once more to watch the form of her friend, Janet's face resting in her arms as she propped them up against the rail of the balcony and stared out at the night. With a sigh and a light shake of her head, she headed back inside and towards the auditorium to catch a small dance with Ray.
