Life at Windian High (Part 2)

"Babe? You alright? You've been looking a bit upset about something and you're really quiet..." Justin gave Janet a studying look. She simply muttered in reply.

"Yea, hey c'mon!" Chad took a bite out of his apple as he glanced over at Janet. "You're usually a little chatterbox! Why so mute all of the sudden?"

"It hasn't been a good day." Janet grumbled as she stared down at her milk carton.

"Huh?" David scratched his cheek lightly as he looked at Janet. "What happened?"

"I was late to school." Janet sighed.

"Um....." Justin gave his girlfriend a confused look. "So? So you were late, so what?"

"So I was here early!"

The three guys went silent and stared at Janet, each with a completely confused and lost look on their face. Janet sighed and rolled her eyes.

"I had come here early to find Lucy, but Ms. Smith caught me in the halls and wanted me to run an errand for her, so I did and I ended up being late to first period, but Ms. Smith wrote me a hallpass but when I got to first period that bitch of a teacher wouldn't even look at it! So I've got detention for Mrs. W today after school..."

"Oh." The three males at the table managed out their response in perfect unison. Chad then cleared his throat.

"Bummer. Guess that's what a student gets for actually trying to help a teacher."

Janet was about to reply when Lucy's voice from behind her caused her to turn around. "Lucy! Landon, I was looking for you today! Guys, excuse me." Janet hopped up and headed over to her friend. She didn't notice the scowl that Candice gave her as she left before the blonde windian leaned over and whispered something into Justin's ear.

"You were looking for me?" Lucy asked her friend curiously as Janet stepped up to her. "When?"

"This morning actually... just before I was late to school even though I was here early." Lucy gave her a confused look and Janet shook her head. "Nevermind, anyway, you wanted to talk to me?"

"Yea..." Lucy sighed. "Janet, come on... Even Yuki's worried about you... Why are you still bothering with the WINGS?"

"Lucy, I told you." Janet gave her friend a tired look. "I can't just leave them behind. WINGS are old friends, and besides, I can't just leave Justin behind."

"Why not?" Both Lucy and Janet spun around to find Jason standing with them, his hands stuffed into his pockets at he stared down at Janet, an annoyed look on his face. Both girls blinking in startled amazement before in perfect unison they each spoke to Jason.

"You?!?"

"Whoa!" The red-haired windian glanced between the two girls. "Geez, stereo greeting."

"What are you doing here?" Janet placed her hands on her hips as she glared at Jason.

"Hey!" Jason gave her a defensive look. "I was just walking by here and I hear you talking that shit about 'I can't leave poor Justin' and I just had to stop by."

"Oh will you STOP IT!?" Janet's glared became even more dangerous. "Justin and I are not you're business, Jason! In fact, nothing that I do is your business! So why don't you just leave me alone?!"

"Sheesh, alright, fine." Jason turned and continued his walk through the cafeteria. Janet and Lucy could both hear him muttering as he disappeared into the crowd of students. "Bitch..."

Janet sighed and rubbed her forehead. "Why won't he just leave me alone? Landon... I swear he's always sticking his nose where it doesn't need to be."

"Maybe he's just worried." Lucy considered her friend for a moment. Janet gave her disbelieving look and then laughed.

"Hah! Jason? Worried? Right, listen Lucy, last time that jerk ever pretended to be worried or concerned about me turned out to be a night of hell that's just gotten me into more trouble now that we're back home!" Janet grudgingly remembered the night that Jason had been teasing her about Candice and Justin. Lucy gave her friend a startled look before her expression changed back into the emotionless one that the raven-haired windian was so commonly using.

"Well, whether or not Jason is, Janet... Yuki and I are. And so is Ray. You shouldn't be hanging around with WINGS anymore. They're a bad influence. Come on, Janet... just come back to the table with me. Come back to your real friends... it's not that hard."

Janet sighed and shook her head at Lucy. No... actually it's a lot harder then you think. "Lucy, lunch is going to be over soon... I'd like to finish eating before going to class, alright?" She gave her friend a weak smile. "I'll see you later."

Lucy watched in defeat as Janet walked away from her. "Fine..." She sighed to herself. "You'll see Janet... sooner or later, you'll see."
