Life at Windian High (Part 2)

It is now lunchtime at Windia High school. Despite what many students tend to think, their teachers are also living beings that eat and breathe as well.

Saeko Smith walked into the teacher's lounge. Since she was the first teacher there, she started the coffee maker for the others. As she sat at the table and opened her lunch bag, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the room. Soon enough, the other members of the Windia High faculty came into the lounge. Mrs. Wireman soon entered, and poured herself a cup of coffee before taking a seat next to Ms. Smith.

"Jennifer... how's your day been so far?" Ms. Smith asked with a smile.

"Just a normal day, Saeko... would you like some coffee?" Mrs. Wireman asked the former teacher from St. Hermelin.

"Not at the moment... I'll wait on it. Thanks anyway..." Ms. Smith replied before pouring herself some soup from her thermos.

"Saeko... I'm just wondering... Frank was your student before... back in St. Hermelin, right?" Mrs. Wireman said after taking a sip of her coffee.

Ms. Smith dropped her spoon in shock. She turned to Mrs. Wireman. "Besides what I've told you... you... know?"

"Actually... yes. Frank's opened up to me Saeko... a short time after you started here... as a substitute. He wasn't... himself that day. Frank was distant, distracted... I talked to him after school, and..." Mrs. Wireman said quietly,

"Jennifer... his parents. I know too... I've been keeping a watchful eye on him since I started working here... Frank and his friends... if it weren't for them... I..." Ms Smith just stared into her cup full of soup.

"The Snow Queen, right? He's told me. Saeko, I'm worried about him. He acts like nothing had happened... but he's in pain. I feel for him... I still cannot believe that anyone is that cold... to murder two people like that..."

Ms. Smith looked at Mrs. Wireman and noticed that her ears were drooped considerably.

"Saeko... I've been wanting to know... that man who attacked the school shortly before you were sent here to apologize on behalf of St. Hermelin..." The Grassrunner adjusted her glasses and took another sip of her coffee.

"St. Hermelin's former Dean of Admissions, George Harding. No one on the staff liked him... Jennifer, he dubbed my class the Loser class!" Ms. Smith replied.

Mrs. Wireman blinked in shock. "How in Ladon's name did a man like that manage to get a job in a school of all places??? Saeko, he came here to kill Frank, Ellen and Nate!"

"You're telling me... He promised that he'd kill Frank, Ellen, and Nate when they saved me... apparently, a life isn't as important as the school to him... I swear... If he became the principal at Seven Sisters... I don't know what would have happened..." Ms. Smith explained before taking a spoonful of soup.

Both teachers continued to eat in silence until Ms. Smith spoke up again.

"Jennifer... I have to apologize for this morning... I had Janet run an errand for me that had her running late. So I issued her a hall pass and sent her on her way." As soon as these words left her mouth, Jennifer Wireman dropped her fork and turned to Ms. Smith.

"Um... Saeko..." Mrs. Wireman stammered.

"What's wrong?"

"I gave her detention for being late!" Mrs. Wireman replied.

Ms. Smith chuckled. "Just apologize to her after school. That's what I'd do..."

"I was planning to, Saeko. Believe me..." Mrs. Wireman replied.

Both teachers continued to eat and catch up on small things up until the bell rang.
