Life at Windian High (Part 2)

Mrs. Wireman was grading a few of her papers when she heard the knock on her door. "Come in!" The teacher called out as she looked up to see Janet Meyers entering her room. Mrs. Wireman's ears twitched lightly. "Ah, Ms. Meyers, here for your detention?" Janet didn't reply. She was too busy grumbling in annoyance about her science teacher. Mrs. Wireman watched her for a moment before motioning to a desk infront of her. "Please have a seat, Ms. Meyers. I'd like to speak to you a bit about this morning." The windian continued to grumble as she made her way up to the desk her teacher had pointed out and she sat down, dropping her bookbag roughly on the ground next to her. Mrs. Wireman cleared her throat and folded her arms, leaning forward a bit in her desk as she began to speak to her student.

"Young lady, you have had a long history of being late, disrupting my class, and not getting your assignments done." Mrs. Wireman removed her glasses for a moment, wiping them briefly on her lab coat before replacing them to their perch on her nose. "I've had you here for detention countless times, and have had to send a good share of notes home to your family."

Janet began muttering again, folding her arms over her chest as she stared down at the desk infront of her. Mrs. Wireman watched her for a moment before continuing.

"All of these reason are why I immediately wrote you up for detention today. It was unfair, and I apologize, I should have asked to see if you had a pass or a note with you."

Janet's eyes went wide and her muttering was cut off in mid-word. Janet blinked in amazement before staring up at the serious expression on her teacher's face. No way... she didn't just say what I think she said... did she?

Mrs. Wireman noticed the surprise in Janet's face but simply continued talking. "Honestly, Ms. Meyers, I noticed that you've seemed to be putting some effort into your actions lately." Mrs. Wireman straightened a few of the papers on her desk before continuing. Janet simply continued to stare at her in amazement. "You're behavor has been improving, you've been getting your assignments in on time more often, and you've been on time to class lately. Aside from those absences of yours, which you have already brought in an excuse note for, you've been doing a good job keeping yourself in check, and it was enterly unfair for me to jump to conclusions and give you detention. Therefore," Mrs. Wireman's ears twitched lightly as she folded her hands together once more and looked at her student, "I have decided to overlook this little incident. You don't need to serve detention today, and I've sent a note to the attendance office to remove that tardy from your attendance record. You may leave now. Have a nice day and I'll see you tomorrow."

Janet sat dumbfounded as Mrs. Wireman went back to correcting her papers. She couldn't believe what she had just heard. No way! Mrs. W actually apologizing? How did she even find out about the hallpass? Janet found herself unable to move for a minute as she tried to figure out whether or not she had fallen asleep in one of her other classes and was dreaming this whole ordeal. Eventually she worked herself out of her seat, picked up her bookbag, and made her way out of the classroom. Mrs. Wireman glanced up to see her heading out the door. The teacher's ears twitched again lightly and she turned back to her work.
