Life at Windian High (Part 2)

Frank Maynard was waving good-bye as he left for school on Friday morning. He had managed to leave early enough to stop by Kate's house to pick her up and walk with her to school.

After Frank was out of sight, Jess and Neko-Chan turned to go back into the weapons store. The demoness turned to the older woren with what appeared to be a sad look on her face.

"Myah... Jess... I still miss him... Everytime he goes to school..." Neko-Chan said as she looked toward the ground. Her tails were moving around slowly and sadly.

"Neko-Chan, cheer up!" Jess replied as she put an arm around the catgirl to cheer her up. "It's Friday today... Frank can spend some time with you this weekend, okay?"

The Nekomata looked up at the older woren. "Meow... I guess you're right Jess... Myah... do you need any help, meow?"

"Er... not at the moment, Neko-Chan. But thank you anyway." The woren said as her ears batted nervously. Don't need her around anything shiny...

"Myah... okay." Neko-Chan replied with her usual kitty grin.

"Why don't you go upstairs, Neko-Chan? I'll come and get you if I do need some assistance down here, okay?" Jess replied as her tail waved slowly.

Neko-Chan nodded and ran upstairs. Before heading to the room that she and Frank shared, she stopped at the kitchen to fix herself a sandwich, using the leftover fried fish that Frank had cooked last night. After downing the sandwich with a glass of milk (It's a kitty thing), she uneasily washed her plate and glass, dried them, and returned to her room.

"Meow..." Neko-Chan said as she looked at Frank's desk. "He left his memories out again... the journal, purr..."

The catgirl demoness sauntered over to Frank's desk and looked at the book curiously. Her tails were waving around as she contemplated reading the journal to learn more about Frank. With a purr, Neko-Chan scooped up the book and made her way over to Frank's bed. She hopped up, and sat crosslegged while she wrapped both her tails around her body. Her ears began to flick in interest as she opened the book and began to read.

I've been here for a few months now... I was surprised to find out that no time had passed in Lunarvale. I guess that's all changed now. Philemon told Ellen, Nate, and me that time is now permanently in sync with Windia. It's kinda odd though, thinking that I've been here for so long, and that no time had passed back where I used to live... Philemon explained it to us as part of the demonic influence that had control over Lunarvale. Anyhow, I'm just glad that everything there is normal...

I keep promising myself I wouldn't think about... home anymore... I've got a lot of bad memories from Lunarvale... SEBEC... Mom... Dad... I don't know... I really miss them... I keep telling myself... I can't. I can't put it past me. They were my parents, for Christ's sake!

Calm down... Okay... I get like that when I think about it... But when other people talk about it... I lose it. When Dean Harding began pushing me around... and insulted my parents... I lost it. I decked him. Luckily, Ms. Smith and Dr. Kotter weren't angry. I mean, he'd been abusing the students at St. Hermelin long enough. She was glad that I hit him, before another person decided to kill him...

School... I remember back when I was at St. Hermelin. Now I'm here in Windia, attending Windia High... heh... I can remember my first day there...

I was the new guy in a new world... I felt out of place again, like when I first transferred to St. Hermelin... I made it through though... I remember something... from that day. I swore that I heard Kate's name mentioned in a few of my classes... I couldn't confirm it though. At the end of that day, I was feeling homesick... Luckily, I had open study. I was in the auditorium, thinking about the past... I picked a guitar up and began to play American Pie, one of my favorite songs of all time. By the time I was finished, I saw Kate there... watching me, with a smile on her face and a tear in her eye. I couldn't believe it either... all she told me was... welcome home. I think we both hugged there and stayed that way for a little while, until she had to return to gym class.

"Purr... that's so sweet! Frank and Kate... myah..." Neko-Chan said quietly before returning to where she had left off.

We walked home together that day, catching up on what had happened from the time we went looking for the Diamond of Truth. Needless to say, she was overjoyed to find out that I was slowly getting back on track, and that I was going to be staying in Windia. If I think about it now, I think that is one of the best days of my life... both the new one and the old one...

It's getting late now... Neko-Chan's already curled up on her bed, sleeping and purring. It makes me wonder what she dreams about at night... Anyway, I've got school tomorrow.

Frank Maynard

Neko-Chan blinked a couple of times before closing the book slowly. "Myah... Frank... so many things... purr..."

The catgirl demoness hopped off of Frank's bed and replaced the book, making sure that it was in the same place as it was when she got it. Instead of going to sleep, she just flopped onto her bed and stared at the ceiling.

"Meow... Frank... your parents... you and Kate... your life meow... has been interesting..." Neko-Chan said quietly. "As for what I dream about, purr... fishies, my friends, and you, my best friend, meow..."
