Life at Windian High (Part 2)

Kate's tail was waving happily as she started to change out of her colosseum outfit and into her normal grey shirt. Tellka was counting out the zenny payment that Kate had received for fighting in the colosseum. "Not bad for your first fight."

"I thought you only got paid if you betted on yourself for your fights?" Kate was flexing her fingers after removing them from the two pairs of gloves she had been wearing, her claws that Frank and given her, and then her fingerless gloves that she had worn over the claws. Tellka batted an ear and chuckled.

"You get more money if you do that. You do get a little bit of payment for actually fighting. The amount you make depends on who you're fighting, your popularity with the crowd, and your fighting skill."

"How much do you make?" Kate looked up at her guardian who sighed and flicked her ears.

"Not nearly as much as I should be making. But you did a pretty good job for your first fight, Kate." Tellka gave the younger woren a curious look. "But I was wondering... that was a pretty hard blow you took from your opponent. Whenever I just tap you, you have this way of crumpling to the ground and not wanting to move again." Tellka chuckled lightly. "How did you recover so fast from his attack?"

Kate thought for a moment, unsure of the answer. "I don't know?" The woren shrugged her shoulders. "You know... it didn't really hurt that much when he hit me... I mean, it's like I couldn't feel the pain until after the battle was over, and then it really started to hurt." Tellka considered Kate for a moment and shrugged.

"Sometimes in battle, you're so caught up in what you're doing that you don't even notice that you've been hurt until your mind settles down afterwards."

"I guess." Kate shrugged, her tail flicking. "Anyway... I guess I just thought I had to win so that you wouldn't tag along to the dance with me and Frank." She then grinned up at Tellka who chuckled in response.

"I guess. But you know, I like the style you used against that guy. When you tackled him like that... you know, Kate..." Tellka rubbed her chin thoughtfully, "I think we may have found a good fighting style for you to practice."

"Tellka?" Kate sighed loudly as she finished changing, stuffing her fighting outfit into her backpack that she had brought with her. "Please can we talk about that later? I'm kind of hungry and Frank is waiting outside..."

"Of course." Tellka's tail flicked. "We'll go grab food, but next time we practice I expect more serious effort from you. After all, now I know that you have a pretty good chance in fights now." Tellka grinned at Kate as the younger woren sighed a defeated sigh.
