Life at Windian High (Part 2)

Diane's tail was waving and the woren's face held its usual smirk on it as she watched Frank and Ellen sit back down. The two Persona Users noticed her grinning at them and exchanged glances.

"Yes?" Frank slipped an arm around Kate who was sipping on a carton of milk as he gave Diane a curious look. The woren just shook her head and munched another one of her brother's cookies.

"Show-offs."

"Hey, we just needed something to do, that's all." Ellen chuckled and then turned to her boyfriend who was still face down on the table and sleeping. "Why is he so tired anyway?" There was a hint of concern in her voice as she studied the woren. Diane shrugged.

"He couldn' sleep las' night. Went out fer a walk and didn' come home fer a while." She finished off the last of his cookies and washed them down with his carton of milk. Ellen gave a curious 'hrm' as she looked at her unconscious boyfriend again.

Janet was drumming her fingers on the side of her thermose. The windian seemed a bit fidgety, and Yuki gave her a curious look.

"Janet, you alright?"

"Just thinking about something..." The windian continued to tap her fingers for a moment before she turned to Frank. "Hey, Frank?"

"Yea Janet?" The Persona User looked up as he heard his name being called. "What's up?"

"You know..." Janet started thoughtfully. "I was wondering... if it'd be alright to-" the windian paused suddenly and shot a curious look behind her. She wasn't sure why she had felt the sudden urge to look, but sure enough there was definitely something to see. Janet's eyes went wide with concern as she saw her friend. "Lucy?"

Lucy's movements were deliberate and empty as she walked up to the table and sat down next to Ray. It was obvious there was something wrong with her, and the dragon slipped an arm around her in concern.

"Lucy?" Ray studied the expression on her face for a moment. Her face once again held the expressionless look that the raven-haired windian had once worn so often before. There was a type of empty and far off gaze her in eyes, and Ray waited patiently as Lucy sat quietly beside him, staring down at the table. He didn't have to wait long. After about a minute, the windian began to talk in a quiet voice.

"Dad came home last night."

Janet and Ray exchanged glances before Frank spoke up.

"Your dad's back? I don't suppose that means that Brandon's home too?"

Lucy just continued to stare down at the table as she shook her head at Frank. "No, Brandon's... still out in the field."

Ray cleared his throat. "So, how is your dad anyway now that he's home?"

"He's alright." Lucy sighed. "It's all alright, anyway, he got called in to the office because of something big that had come up..."

"Called in to work right after getting home?" Janet raised an eyebrow in wonder and picked up her sandwich, taking a small bite of it. "Shouldn't there be some sort of resting period or something?" Especially after the news he must have heard right after getting home...

"Well, normally yes, but something came up, and Dad had to go to the office." Lucy's voice trailed off again and she continued to stare blankly down at the table. Ray rubbed the back of his neck uneasily. He felt like there was more to the story then Lucy was saying, and whatever it was, it certainly had bothered her.

"So..." the dragon started quietly as he looked down at the raven-haired windian. "What was he called in for?"

Lucy didn't answer right away. She just continued to stare down at the table. Janet took another bite from her sandwich and turned to Lucy expectantly, waiting for her friend to speak. Landon, Lucy. What has you so bothered?

The raven-haired windian finally let out a sigh. "It was a report... two reports actually, missing persons." Lucy's voice trailed off and once again she stared blankly down at the table for a few minutes. Finally the windian dropped her head into her hands and let out a loud sigh as she rubbed her forehead. "Landon.... Janet, it was Chad and David..."

Janet was about to take another bite of her sandwich but the minute she heard Lucy's words she paused and turned to her friend. "Excuse me?"

"I said it was Chad and David." Lucy's head shot up and she turned to Janet, her face no longer expressionless it now held a look of helpless worry and her eyes seemed to be tinted with a baffeled hysteria. "Janet they've been missing since Monday, just up and gone! Where in all of Torana could they be?"

Janet set down her sandwich as she felt a wave of quesiness course through her. First Brandon dies, then Jason and the Bird, now after WINGS has broken up I find out that Chad and David are missing... Landon... was our group cursed or something? She was startled from her thoughts as Lucy suddenly jumped up from the table. "Lucy?"

"I've got to go find Jason." Lucy was already walking away quickly from the table as Janet stood up to follow her.

"Jason? Why him?"

"Landon, Janet!" Lucy whirled around to face her friend. "They were his best friends! He deserves to know!"

"You need to sit down..." Ray was beside Lucy in an instant, his hand on her shoulder and guiding her back to the table. "Don't worry about Jason right now... look at you, you need to calm down for a moment... Lucy, you're hysterical." Ray gently pushed Lucy back into her seat and motioned for Janet to sit next to her. "I'll be right back, I just need to throw a few things away..." The dragon reached over and grabbed his empty lunch bag. Lucy's only reply was her silent and far off stare towards the table again. With a sigh, Ray gave her a light kiss on the cheek and headed away from the table. Landon, Lucy you're in no state to try and talk to Jason right now... I'll go find him. Besides... something tells me that there may be more to this then just a missing persons case...
