Out of Darkness

Jason muttered loudly as he heard the knocking on his front door. "Who the hell would be coming over at this hour?" He glanced out the window at the dark sky as he made his way to the door, the knocking continued. "I'm coming already!" He muttered as he reached out and opened the door. His eyes went wide with shock as he saw who was standing there. "Lucy???"
Lucy stood there, staring up at him quietly, her arms wrapped around herself as she shivered slightly from the cold.
Jason blinked in disbelief. "Landon's sake, what are you doing out there? Get in here!" He pulled her into the house and closed the door, turning and studying her carefully. "You look a little roughed up, what happened?"
"Don't ask, just please... don't ask." Lucy sighed as she made her way over to the couch and sat down.
"Where have you been? We've been looking for you all over, and Janet's been acting so weird lately. What the hell is going on anyway?"
"Didn't I just tell you not to ask?" Lucy snapped quickly as she looked over a Jason. With a sigh, she turned her gaze to the floor and folded her hands carefully in her lap. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to yell like that."
Jason shrugged and walked over to her, kneeling in front of her to get a good look at her face. "It's okay. But I mean really, you look like you've been through hell or something with all those scratches. What happened?"
"I fell." Lucy stated quietly and brought her gaze up the meet Jason's eyes. "Anyway, I have a favor that I need to ask you."
Jason shrugged again. "Shoot."
Lucy sighed. "First, I need to know if you'll let me stay here overnight tonight."
Jason raised an eyebrow at her questioningly. "No one is home though."
"I don't care." Lucy shook her head. "Your house is the only option I have, there's no place else I can stay at right now."
Jason was about to ask why but stopped himself. "Well, I suppose you could stay here then, if you really need to."
A faint smile visited Lucy's lips. "There's something else I need you to do for me."
"Just name it."
Lucy sighed for a moment. "Have you heard of the Shrine of the Heroes?" Jason shook his head. Lucy continued, "it's just east of Windia. I have to go there tomorrow, but I need to get Ray there too."
Jason looked at her curiously. "What do you need the dragon there for?"
"I can't explain it..." Lucy shook her head again. "Not right now, at least. Maybe tomorrow I can. But, I need to know, will you help me get Ray down there somehow?"
Jason gave her a questioning look, but slowly agreed. "Yea... sure, I can try."
Lucy smiled again. "Thanks. Can we talk about this more tomorrow? I'm really tired..."
Jason nodded and headed off to find her a few blankets as Lucy settled down sleepily on the couch.

Janet was pacing just in front of the park's fountain when Justin came walking up to her.
"Have you seen Jason today? He didn't make it to band practice."
Janet shrugged at her boyfriend. "I don't know, I haven't seen anyone today." She muttered. "Did you check his house?"
Justin nodded. "He wasn't there."
Janet shrugged helplessly. "I don't know. I don't know, people just keep disappearing..." she sighed loudly and went back to pacing. "And I don't know where they've gone, or why, or for how long, so no, Justin, I haven't seen him around anywhere!"
Justin stepped up behind Janet and put an arm on her shoulder. "Will you calm down, babe? You've been really worked up for the past two days.
Janet sighed and turned to face him. "I'm just worried. Ever since Lucy disappeared from the library two days ago... I've just been worried about her." Janet wrapped her arms around herself and sighed. Justin gave her a quick hug and kissed her on the forehead.
"Don't worry about her, babe. She'll turn up, you'll see. With Brandon always following her around like that, what could happen to her?"
Janet tried to let Justin's words reassure her, but all she could manage was a weak smile to appease him. "You might be right." She was about to say something else when a loud shout grabbed her attention.
"Hey!"
Janet and Justin both turned to see a rather angry looking Ray running up to them.
"Alright, this isn't funny." He growled out as he stalked up to the couple. "What did you do with Britney?"
"What?" Janet gave him a confused look. "What are you talking about?"
"My sister!" Ray glared at the two windians. "I know one of you took her! Where is she?"
"I haven't gone anywhere near your sister." Janet snapped back defensively. "What makes you think we did something?"
"She was outside this morning, playing in the yard. I thought I heard her shouting something and when I went to check all I found was this thing stuck to our door." Ray held up a small piece of paper. Janet took it from him and read over it carefully.
"'Sorry about the brat, jack. If you want her back, come look for her at the place dedicated to destiny.' What the hell?"
Justin glanced over at the note in Janet's hand. "That looks like Jason's handwriting."
Janet shrugged, reading over the note again. "Place dedicated to destiny... that sounds like..." Janet's voice trailed off as a look of realization set into her eyes. "Oh my god, don't tell me he's..."
"What?" Ray peered at Janet suspiciously. "Is this some sick joke you all have set up or something?"
Janet didn't answer. She dropped the note quickly and shoved past Justin, taking off in a run out of the park. Ray let out a quick shout of surprise and chased after her, leaving Justin standing by the fountain alone, looking rather startled and confused.
