Life at Windian High

"I really wish they'd stop letting random students use the sound booth." Lucy sighed as she made her way out of the small booth and onto the stage. After the trouble with the stereo that had been left off, Lucy had finally managed to get the sound system to cooperate with her. Janet and the rest of the WINGS had arrived in time to help Brandon set up the rest of the instruments.

"What happened this time?" Janet glanced over at Lucy as she approached.

"Some one had stuck gum on a lot of the dials, and I had to pick it off." Lucy sighed and rubbed her hands against the skirt of her uniform. "And of course that stupid stereo had been left off." She motioned to the stereo above the drum set. "Anyway, it's all set up now. We need to check volume on the instruments." Lucy motioned to the microphones and headed back into the sound booth as Brandon picked up his drumsticks and clicked them together in a small beat as he sat on his drum stool. Jason grabbed his guitar and strummed a few chords as he began to tune his instrument. Janet stepped up to the microphone and began talking into it.

"Testing, testing, 1, 2, 3, testing. Justin? Can you hear me okay out there?"

Justin gave a thumbs up from where he was sitting out in the audience, then turned back to the conversation he was having with David.

"Testing, testing... sounds okay I guess."

Chad hopped up on stage and politely took over the microphone. He leaned close to it and began speaking in a low, quiet tone.

"Uh, hello uh, students of Windian High..." Chad's voice was slow and deliberate as he scanned over the invisable student body who filled the seats of the auditorium. "This is your principal speaking... we've got a uh, few notes here concerning the uh... today's schedule." Chad reached into his pocked and pulled out an imaginary piece of paper, pretending to unfold it and glance over it as he spoke again. "Lunch today will be served during 4th period due to uh, the closing of the cafeteria for investigation on vermin infestation. One of lunch lady Kester's meatballs seems to have sprouted fur again, and one of our faculty must have mistoke it for a mouse when she spotted it scurrying across the floor." There was chuckling from David and Jason. Janet rolled her eyes.

"You all are so immature." She shooed Chad off the stage.

Jason was still working on his guitar, strumming out a few chords, tuning it, strumming the chords out again and fiddling a bit more with the tuning heads. Janet was beginning to get annoyed.

"Geez, it sounds like you're strangling a cat! I thought you were trying to tune that thing!"

Jason glared at Janet for a moment, then began to improvise a few notes on his untuned instrument. He cleared his throat and started singing in a voice as intentionally annoying as the sound of his guitar. "I know a girl named Janet. She's so annoying I wish she'd cram it. When I see her I wanna shout-- DAMMIT!" Jason rubbed his head and glared over at Janet who had just clobbered him with her History book. Chad started laughing.

"Hey, that rhymes! You should keep that line in, Jason!"

Jason chuckled at his friend's comment and went back to tuning his guitar while Janet went back down to where her book bag was sitting open in one of the seats. She shoved her text book back into it and closed it up.

"Are we almost ready?" Brandon was drumming his foot and tapping out a quick beat on one of the cymbals. Jason finished his tuning and nodded.

Janet, Lucy, Brandon and Jason all got into place on stage, the rest of their group settling themselves in the front and second row seats, and the WINGS band finally started their practice.
