Life at Windian High

Author's Note: A weird thing happened to day. I pulled up the old Kate's Chapters and Frank's Chapters and read over them. =0-o= You know... those Kate's Chapters of mine really are just void to me. ~Blink~ Janet from Kate's chapter had short blonde hair and white wings... ~scratches her head~ It was weird to read.. plus there was some guy named Luke in there? Myah, anyway, after reading over my old chapters and thinking to myself 'how the heck did I go from that to this?' I figured that I should pick up a bit more with Kate and Tellka. ~purrm~ I know I had something developing there... just need to get back to work in that.
Kate kicked the warm sad under her feet and glanced at her outfit again. It was an outfit that Tellka had bought for her a while ago made specifically for fighting. Kate flexed her hands and looked at the set of claws she was wearing. They were the same claws that Frank had given her during the colosseum incident. That's where I first met Frank... Kate thought to herself as her tail waved lightly. It had been a long time since she had been in the colosseum practicing with Tellka. Tellka was doing a few quick exercises with her staff, and Kate was getting used to wearing the strange armor she was currently dressed in.

Her outfit wasn't too unlike Tellka's. She was wearing a small, sleeveless, tan colored top that was strapped around her neck by a black collar. She had on light brown, open-toed boots that were held to her leg by another black band that wrapped around the boots at about her ankles. Across her midsection she wore a type of fighting belt, a thick plate that was ment to protect her from any hits to the stomach. The piece of armor had a type of tiger-stripped pattern along it. The whole fighter look was finished off by two decorative bands that were wrapped around each of Kate's legs, just above the knees, and of course the woren was wearing the set of claws that seemed to match the outfit almost perfectly. Tellka stopped her warm-ups and glanced over at Kate, nodding approvingly.

"You look like a fighter."

"I don't feel like one." Kate pouted and Tellka chuckled lightly at her.

"Fine, I won't make you fight today, I just want you to work more on that fancy stuff I've been telling you about."

Kate pouted once again. Tellka was talking about the flips and twirls she had wanted her to learn for her fights. "Why do I have to know all of these things?"

"Well for one thing," Tellka stretched and set her staff aside, "they help you out in the fights. Ways to evade and all. For another thing, colosseum fighting is a lot of show." Tellka's tail tip flicked lightly. "You get out there and you look good and the crowd will just eat you up. It does wonders for your career."

Kate sighed loudly at Tellka's excuse as she began to practice her various moves. The older woren watched her approvingly, and after a couple of hours Kate was finally able to stop for a break.

"You're getting better." Tellka handed the panting woren a large glass of water that she had retrieved for her earlier.

"Thanks..." Kate chugged down the water and wiped her mouth, still working to catch her breath.

"Really though, you're getting a lot better. You could really do some wonder if you'd just take this seriously."

"Serious..." Kate rolled her eyes. "I'm sorry Tellka, but the last time I fought in the colosseum was when I met Frank for the first time and then we ended up fighting that guy who-..." Kate's voice trailed off and her ear's fell lightly. Tellka nodded in understanding.

"Don't worry about it, I know what you mean." Kate had first met Frank during her first battle at the colloseum. Frank had been her opponent, and it was that day that he had saved her from a possessed windian known was Redwing. Redwing had been the one responsible for killing Kate's mother, and would have killed Kate too if it weren't for Frank's help. Tellka's ears twitched lightly as she could remember first meeting Frank. "Say, by the way," Tellka gazed at Kate curiously. "What ever happened to that ring Frank gave you? The one that let you talked to your mother?"

Kate shrugged lightly and rubbed the finger that she used to wear the jewerly on. "It faded out... Mom said she was happy that I was safe, and that she would continue watching over me, but that I needed to get on with my life and that meant letting go of the past." Kate shrugged. "So the magic wore out... I can't reach her anymore, but I know she's there..." Kate gave her guardian a weak smile and Tellka nodded.

"She was there when you needed her, and she still is." Tellka's ears batted lightly as she placed a hand on Kate's shoulder. "I'm glad you can let go of her though like that. It's not good to cling on to the past."

"No, I guess it's not." Kate's smile strengthed a bit as she considered Tellka. "And besides... I have you here, and Frank, and Carrie and others... and I know mom is still there... I can still see her sometimes if I go to the Velvet Room." Kate's tail waved lightly. "So you know, it's not really like I've lost anything."

Tellka grinned at the younger woren and nodded. "That's the spirit. Now come on, you need to start your practicing again."

Kate nodded a bit uneagerly as she stretched and started to work once more on her evasive flips and rolls. Tellka stepped back to watch her as she practiced, her ears twitching in pride. That's my girl. She thought to herself, holding the sentence back from Kate's mind as not to disturb her during her practice. Tellka's thoughts were distracted by something that she had said earlier and she ran the line around him her mind for a moment. It's not good to cling on to the past... The woren heaved a silent sigh to herself as she continued to watch Kate practice. After she took the girl home for supper, Tellka figured that she'd make her home trip out into the woods. She had some thinking to do.
