Life at Windian High

Frank nervously approached Kate's house with a bouquet of Daffodils. He knew that this was Kate's favorite flower, and bought a bouquet of them before going out to pick her up.

"Get a grip, Frank..." He said quietly to himself. "This is just a dinner date. What could possibly go wrong?" Unfortunately, Frank forgot that those five words could make everything go astray.

He knocked on the door, and was greeted by Carrie Harlow, the Windian Woman who had taken Kate in.

"Hello Frank!" Carrie said with a smile. "Please, come in! I'll let Kate know that you're here."

"Thank you, Ms. Harlow." Frank said with a smile. Carrie then went upstairs to get Kate.

Frank was about to sit down when Kate came downstairs. Instead of the normal gray tank top that she usually wore, she was wearing a nice shirt. It wasn't too fancy, but it wasn't very casual either. In fact, it was perfect for their date.

"Kate... you look great!!!" Frank said as he presented the bouquet of daffodils to her.

Kate giggled, then accepted the flowers from him. "Daffodils!!!" She exclaimed. Kate sniffed the flowers. Frank noticed that her tail was waving happily.

"Frank? How did..." Kate asked as one of her ears flicked in curiosity.

"Connections... basically, I asked Ellen, who asked Alex who asked Diane who asked Ray who finally asked Tellka." Frank said as he caught his breath.

Kate laughed. "They're beautiful, Frank!" Kate then placed the flowers in some water.

Frank smiled. "So... shall we get going then?"

Kate was about to reply when Tellka came in from the kitchen.

"I'm going with you two." She said firmly.

"Tellka... this is supposed to be a special night..." Frank started.

"No buts, mister! I'm Kate's guardian, and I'm coming along! Or do I have to tell it to you in another way?" Tellka said with a growl.

Frank sighed. The night was not getting off to a good start. "All right... all right..." He said as he opened the door for both of them.

Kate thanked him on her way out. All Tellka had to offer was a glare.

"Definitely not off to a good start..." Frank said to himself.

The trio was now seated at a restaurant called the Breeze of the Sea. Kate and Frank were busy looking at the menus while Tellka just glanced around.

"I don't like this place..." Tellka said as she shifted in her chair. She then gave Frank another glare.

"Hey... it was your choice to come with us..." Frank said before returning to his menu. He heard Tellka give a low growl.

The waiter approached their table. "Ready to order?" He asked.

Frank was about to reply, when Tellka snapped at the waiter.

"Ready to order? You've kept us waiting here for Ladon knows how long, and you have the nerve to ask us 'Are you ready to order?'"

The waiter just stared at Tellka as she continued to rant about the service. Finally, Kate had convinced her to calm down, and the trio placed their orders.

"What else could go wrong tonight?" Frank thought to himself.

"Frank?" Kate asked. Frank looked up and noticed one of her ears twitching. "Are you okay?"

Frank managed a smile. "Yeah Kate. Just have a lot on my mind. That's all."

The waiter finally came back with their orders, earning yet another snap from Tellka.

"Tellka... Must you do that?" Frank asked. Tellka turned to glare at him.

"I really don't like this place..." She growled out.

"Hey..." Kate said as she looked around. "There's Alex and Ellen... Why's Diane sitting at another table watching them?"

Frank sighed. With Diane watching her brother and Ellen on their date, trouble was bound to happen.

He was trying to avoid the scene all together, but trouble ensued when the waiter presented Diane with her plate of fried shrimp.

Immediately, Diane tossed one of her shrimps at her brother and Ellen, hitting him in the back of the head. Alex whirled around, but Diane had hidden her face.

"Love? What's wrong?" Ellen asked before taking a bite of her Sea Bass.

Alex turned around, with one ear flicking. "Ah... it's nothing, love... just thought I saw someone." As soon as he finished talking, another shrimp hit him in the back of the head. Alex turned around again, but still, he saw nothing.

"Ellie... keep an eye out... I think someone's throwing something at me..." Alex asked as he turned back to his date.

Ellen nodded, and continued to eat as she watched. Sure enough, she spotted Diane throwing shrimp at her brother.

"Hon... you were right... Diane's sitting at the table across from us, throwing... I think shrimp at the back of your head." Ellen explained before taking another bite of her sea bass.

Alex raised an eyebrow, and Ellen noticed that his ears were twitching. Immediately, Alex whirled around and threw some of his shrimp at Diane, hitting her squarely in the face.

Frank sighed. If he had a watch on, he'd have been looking at it. This was going to be a long night, probably even longer than the one he spent in the demon-infested coliseum.

"Frank?" Kate asked as she looked up from her dinner.

He looked up just in time to see Alex and Diane being escorted from the restaurant, plus an extremely disappointed Ellen still sitting at her table.

"Yeah Kate?" Frank managed to get out.

"Are you okay?" She asked as one of her ears twitched. "It's like you've been distracted all night."

Tellka just scowled at Frank before sniffing at her food in disapproval. She decided to snap at the waiter again as he passed by.

"I guess you could say that." Frank said as he poked at his food. It was then that he noticed Candice dragging Jason into the restaurant.

"Aww... jeez Candi? Why here?" Jason blurted out.

Candice looked at Jason. "Because, you, like promised me that we'd go on a date, and since the food is good here..."

Jason muttered as he sat down. Candice took the seat across from him.

"Aww great..." Frank said to himself as he poked at his food. "With Jason and Candice here, the night's practically ruined..."

Sure enough, Jason tried to get away from the restaurant. Candice stopped him, however. As soon as Jason stood up, Candice muttered the word "Bind".

"What the hell?" Jason yelled. To the casual observer, it looked like Jason was struggling against nothing. However, Jason saw the chair coming to life and holding him down firmly in place.

Jason continued to struggle against nothing, while Candice grinned and gave him a kiss. Jason gagged after the kiss, while Candice giggled.

Frank sighed. "All right... I've seen enough... C'mon Kate, let's get going." He then flagged down their waiter, who was snapped at again by Tellka.

After paying the waiter and giving him a hefty tip (for putting up with Tellka), the trio left and headed through Windia Park.

Kate and Frank were alone now, since Tellka had to get to the coliseum for a fight.

"Kate... sorry about tonight... Everything just seemed to go wrong..." Frank said quietly as the two strolled through the park.

Kate just smiled at him. "It's okay Frank. At least we had something to do tonight..."

Frank just smiled. The two approached Kate's house.

"Well... maybe we can try this again sometime..." Frank said quietly.

Kate smiled. "Well, maybe we could. Goodnight, Frank. See you tomorrow!" She then gave Frank a kiss on the cheek before bounding into her house.

"Good night, Kate! See you tomorrow!" Frank said as Kate waved to him before closing the door to her house.

"Heh... maybe the night wasn't as bad as I thought..." Frank said to himself as he returned home.
