Day of the Play

Scene 14

The lights turn on and the stage is set to show the front of the castle. It's dusk. Frank and David are just outside the castle, looking down at the main gate from where they are standing on a little ridge. Brandon's body is with them.

David: Inigo, there's more than thirty!

Frank: *propping up Brandon* What's the difference? We've got him! Help me here. We have to force-feed him.

David: Has it been fifteen minutes?

Frank: We can't wait. The wedding is in half an hour. We must strike in the hustle and the bustle before hand. Tilt his head back. Open his mouth. *Frank puts the pill into Brandon's mouth*

David: How long do we have to wait before we know if the miracle works?

Frank: Your guess is as good as mine.

Brandon: *disoriented* I'll beat you both apart! I'll take you both together!

David: I guess not very long.

Brandon: *pauses* Why won't my arms move?

David: You've been mostly dead all day.

Frank: We had Miracle Max make a pill to bring you back.

Brandon: Who are you? Are we enemies? Why am I on this wall? Where's Buttercup?

Frank: Let me explain.... *thinks* no, there is too much. Let me sum up; Buttercup is marrying Humperdinck in little less than half an hour. So all we have to do is get in, break up the wedding, steal the princess, make our escape - after I kill Count Rugen.

Brandon: That doesn't leave much for dilly-dally. *his finger wiggles*

David: You just wiggled your finger! That's wonderful!

Brandon: I've always been a quick healer. What are our liabilities?

Frank: There is but one working castle gate, and it is guarded by sixty men.

Brandon: And our assets?

Frank: Your brains, Fezzik's strength, my steel.

Brandon: That's it? Impossible. If I had a month to plan maybe I could come up with something. But this... *shakes his head*

David: You just shook your head! That doesn't make you happy?

Brandon: *flops his head over to face David* My brains, his steel and your strength against sixty men and you think a little head jiggle is supposed to make me happy? Hmm?? I mean if we only had a wheelbarrow, that would be something.

Frank: *to David* Where did we put that wheelbarrow the albino had?

David: Over the albino, I think?

Brandon: Why didn't you list that among our assets in the first place?! *sigh* What I wouldn't give for a holocaust cloak...

Frank: There we cannot help you.

David: *pulls a black cloak from under his shirt* Would this do?

Frank: *surprised* Where did you get that?

David: At Miracle Max's. It fit so nice, he said I could keep it.

Brandon: Alright, alright, come help me up. *They help him up* Now I'll need a sword eventually.

Frank: Why? You can't even lift one.

Brandon: True, but that's hardly common knowledge, is it? Thank you. *Frank gives him a sword* Now, there may be problems once we're inside.

Frank: I'll say. How do I find the Count. Once I do, how do I find you again. Once I find you again, how do I escape.

David: Don't pester him, he's had a hard day.

Frank: Right, right....sorry.

David: Inigo?

Frank: What?

David: I hope we win.

The lights fade out. When they come back on the scene has changed to a view of inside the castle. Jason is talking to Lucy, she is dressed up for the wedding.

Jason: You don't seem excited my little muffin.

Lucy: Should I be?

Jason: Brides often are, I'm told.

Lucy: I do not marry tonight. My Westley will save me. *Lucy leaves*
