Chapter 3

"God, I hope I'm doing the right thing..." Frank mumbled do himself as he finished filling out the necessary forms.

"Thank you, Mr... Maynard." replied the receptionist as she glanced at the now completed forms. She then sauntered off into one of the rooms with his forms.

"Of course I'm doing the right thing. No one should fall victim to anything like that. But... how am I gonna convince her that I'm not the bad guy?" he mumbled to himself.

"Do not worry, Frank..." It was one of Frank's Personas talking to him in his mind. "You will find someway. You are like the person I used to be. That is way I am you and I had emerged from your soul in your time of need." it continued. Frank could tell by the commanding tone that it was Emperor: Dragon talking in his mind.

"I guess so..." Frank thought to himself once more. "I'll do whatever I can to stop that bastard. I won't let anyone die." he said to himself quietly.

At that time, the receptionist had returned from the room.

"Okay, Mr. Maynard! The Director will see you now." The receptionist said in her usual perky tone. "If you have any questions, you can ask me now." she continued.

"Man, how many cups of coffee has she had today?!" Frank thought to himself. "Actually, I do have some questions, since I'm kinda new here in Windia." he said. "Could you tell me a little about some of the people here?"

"All right, which clan would you like to know about?" asked the high-strung receptionist.

"Clan??? Uh... I guess all of them." Frank said sheepishly.

The receptionist sighed. "All right, then. I'll give you the basic information, and then you'll have to see the Director." She told him.

"I'll start with the Wing Clan, or the Angel Clan as some prefer to call us. Most of the Wing Clan have wings like these, and some can fly!" She lifted herself off of the ground a little bit by flapping her majestic, sky blue wings.

"The Woren Clan are catlike people. The males are all covered in fur, while the females have fur on the lower halves of their bodies. The upper halves of the females are like those of a human female, except for the fact that they have catlike ears and eyes. The fur on a Woren resembles that of a tiger, except for a few members of the clan. In fact, one of the best fighters we have is a Woren female who has unstriped fur." Frank made a note of that as he remembered what clan that the person that Redwing was looking for was from.

"The Dragon Clan... The people who come from here usually have blue hair ind emerald green eyes. The people who come from this clan have the power to turn into dragons." Frank cocked his head in interest after hearing about this clan.

"The Indigo Clan is pure magic. The members of this clan have a snakes lower body and a humans upper torso. They also have the power to shift into a full human form if necessary." Frank then remembered the nagas he saw earlier.

"The Wolf and Dog Clans are hunters. People from these clans are extreme sharp shooters, but only kill for need and not for sport."

"The Rabbit Clan looks just like normal humans, except for the fact that they have rabbit ears." Frank nodded in understandment.

"Highlanders are basically walking monkeys. They love to have a good time, and usually like to play jokes." The receptionist then remembered something.

"Oh yeah. I've wasted enough time. You need to see the Director, right through that door back there." She was pointing at the door she had entered earlier.

"Thank you. You've cleared up a lot of things for me. See you soon." Frank said he then walked toward the room, and then entered.

***************************************************

Of course, Frank passed the test with the director. In fact, he wiped the floor with him. What was funny, however, was that Frank beat him using nothing but his rapier. He defeated him with a mock kill to the chest.

Now Frank was sitting in a small room, waiting for his fight to start. He was going over how he should fight this fight, since he was not going for a win. Instead he knew that he had to protect his opponent, who he found out earlier was a female woren named Kate, from this Redwing fellow and his servant. He finally decided to bring his weapons out there with him, but he would only fight using his fists. That meant that he would not use the rapier, shotgun, or his Persona unless something bad was to happen.

"Remember, Frank..." he thought to himself. "This isn't like a fencing tournament back at St. Hermelin. You're trying to protect the other fighter." he reminded himself. His thoughts were interuppted by a knock at the door.

Frank slowly got up from the desk and answered the door. To his surprise, it was another female woren, but she did not have striped fur. She also had red hair and green eyes. Frank remembered what the receptionist had told him earlier. This must be the fighter she was talking about.

"Yes, can I help you?" Frank asked in a calm voice.

"Can I talk to you for a second? It's about Kate..." she replied.

"If it's about the fight, don't worry. I have no intentions of hurting her."

"Oh? Why?" she asked again.

"Let me put it this way. I'm not to thrilled about fighting, but I have my reasons for being here right now." Frank kept his calm demeanor up, hoping not to alarm her.

"All right. I just want to let you know that this is the first time that she has had to fight in the colliseum. If anything goes wrong, she is allowed to let me take her place, sort of like a tag team bout. Is that all right with you?"

"Fine by me. By the way, I didn't catch your name. Mine's Frank, Frank Maynard."

The woren smiled a small smile. "Just call me Tellka. And thanks for understanding." she said.

"No problem... Just keep an eye on her all right?" Frank asked. Tellka nodded slowly, then walked off. Frank was about to sit down again when a man came in from the arena enterance.

"We're ready for you, Mr. Maynard" the attendant said. He then dissapeared into the entryway.

Frank made a sign of the cross and said a Hail Mary and an Our Father. He then walked out into the arena entryway thinking...

"Showtime... just don't let everything get out of hand, Maynard..." He thought. He then appeared out in the arena, and was greeted by bright lights and a noisy crowd.
