Chapter 32

Now it was starting. Time to get serious. I've got two of the four people with me. I checked off Nate and Esor in my notebook on the way back to Agua.

Now all that's left is for the other two... One who sees the world in a hateful way... and one I care for deeply... I know about Kate... but... Who sees the world in a hateful way?

Katt: I don't know... What about... that girl you saw earlier?

How? I don't even know her.

Ryu: Katt might be right Frank. Think about the way she talked when you met her...

I remember... Cold as ice... Ouch...

Nina: Exactly. What I want to know... is who made her like that? Or what?

I don't know, Nina... I honestly wouldn't....

"Frank? Hello? EARTH TO FRANK!!!" I heard a voice say.

"Huh?" I shook my head, and turned my attention to Nate.

"Honestly, Frank. Pay more attention. This sign says we have to get to Agua from here, but I don't see any way. Esor was no help, because she flew off." Nate said once again in his usual manner.

Katt: Please Frank! Just let me have one chance! That's all I'll need!!!

Hush up. I wonder what his Persona think of him?

Katt: Probably that he's the most uncaring, snobbish, son...

Stop Katt!

Katt: Okay, okay... What Persona does he have? Any destined like us?

No. If I remember, he had Hierophant:VooDoo and Lovers:Pixie.

Katt: Okay.

"Wait.. FLEW OFF???" I said to Nate.

"Well... yes Frank. Given the fact that she does have wings, after all..." Nate said before rolling his eyes.

Oops... forgot Esor was a Windian... shoot... I still have to get used to being here...

I looked up at the legendary floating island, then back at the platform I used earlier.

"Esor probably flew up to Agua." I said without looking at my friend.

"Hold on... You mean to tell me that... Agua's up THERE?!" Nate yelled in shock.

I turned to him and replied with just a simple nod.

"How in God's name to we get from here... to way up there?!" Nate asked me.

"Like this." I stepped on the plate, and activated the mechanism that transpoted me back to Agua.

**************************************************************

This time, I actually landed nicely. I calmly walked off the plate, and was greeted by Esor.

"What took you so long?" She asked before grinning.

"I couldn't take the express route, like you could." I swear, I think I actually heard her chuckle, before she stretched her wings.

"I thought both of you came up at the same time. Where's Nate?" She asked quietly.

"He's..." I was interrupted by the someone landing on the plate, rolling past both Esor and me, and landing upside down against the wall.

"Here..." I said while holding back my laughter. While Esor and I moved to help Nate to his feet, I heard Katt in my head, laughing... a lot.

When Nate got to his feet, followed by a little bit of complaining, I lead both of them to where the dungeon was so that we could look around. I nearly lost it, though, when Nate fell again. This time, he leaned against the door in the cathedral that actually lead to the basement. I grabbed the flashlight he dropped, and raced after him with Esor in tow.

I shined the light around the room, and spotted him again upside down against the wall. Once more, I heard Katt busting a gut inside of my head.

"Nate! Are you okay???" I said while trying to hold back my laughter. Nate grimaced.

"Do I LOOK OK? Sheesh... I feel like a Slinky." Nate said before rolling over and getting up.

That time, I chuckled. Esor tapped me on the shoulder.

"Frank... what's a... er... Slinky?" She asked quietly.

"It's a child's toy, back where I come from. It's a spring that... er... walks down the stairs." I explained. Esor nodded slowly.

"I don't think Nate exactly walked down the stairs, though." She said with a chuckle.

"Be quiet, you two." Nate said. He then turned toward the doors.

"Is... is that the dungeon?" Nate said as I trained his flashlight on the doors.

"You bet. We can't go in yet, since I'm missing two people." I said. Nate nodded as he checked his weapons and items to make sure nothing was damaged.

"Not to be rude, or anything... but... are you two hungry?" Esor asked.

"Come to think of it... I haven't had anything to eat since Alex had us stop at the Peace Diner..." Nate said to both of us.

"And I haven't eaten all day." I looked down at my stomach and remembered the last time I ate. It was back at the inn, before I left this morning.

"Why don't we go somewhere, and get something to eat? That has to be better than just standing around here." Esor explained to both of us.

"Yeah... why not? Let's go find a place to eat. My treat." Nate looked at me strangely after I had said that.

"Are you sure, Frank?" Nate said in his usual tone.

"I can help pay, if you want. I've got some extra zenny..." Esor asked me.

"Thanks, Esor, but I can cover it. I've got enough money to last me a while. And I think they'd rather take zenny then gems, Nate." Nate nodded, as did Esor. So we left, and went out to find a place to eat.

************************************************************

After a bit of searching through Agua, Nate, Esor and I finally decided on a nice little cafe called, appropriately enough, the Seabreeze Cafe. It was an interesting setup, actually. The way it was built was that some of the tables were out in daylight on a balcony. And the view from the balcony was astounding. I could see most of Windia from there. I saw that school I kept on thinking about, the beach, and where it all started...

The colliseum... good God, I don't want to have to go through something like that again.

As I thought about what I've been through, I felt the cool breeze from the ocean. For once, I was comfortable. I wanted to put all my troubles out of my mind. Except... Something was tugging at me. I felt I was seperated from something important back in Lunarvale.

I put it at the back of my mind for the moment, and joined Nate and Esor in their conversation. We were still waiting to be served.

"So Frank said, 'Dean Harding' because he wanted to ask him a question, and the Dean gave him detention!" Nate was saying.

Good lord... I remember that... Still can't beleive that man was working in a school when he hated kids so much.

Nina: The assistant principal hated kids???

Unfortunately. He even blamed us for what happened back home. He wished that all of it happened after hours so he wouldn't have to "baby-sit" us....

Ryu: That's... that's wrong....

He even yells at any student that enters the principal's office to ask a question.

Katt: I really don't like that person... Grr....

Settle down, Miss Chuan. I didn't like him either. I didn't exactly enjoy a 4 hour detention on a Saturday. He made sure Dr. Kotter couldn't bail me out. And I didn't exactly like being let out with him slamming books on my desk, near my ear, and him insulting me all the way out.

Katt: I swear... if I ever meet him... I'll...

Calm down! You're scaring me now.

Katt: ... Sorry Frank... It's just that people like that tick me off. Now... who's Dr. Kotter?

Dr. Kotter? My principal. She loves her students... She's the one who helped decorate the courtyard. You know... with flowers and such. God... I hope she's ok...

I joined in on Nate and Esor's conversation, explaining things about what's happened, and how Nate and I lived in Lunarvale. I saw a glint in her eyes when she talked to Nate. And I think I knew what was going on.

"May I take your order?" A sad and quiet voice said. A voice I recognized...

Katt: No.. no way! What luck!

You're telling me!

Our waitress was the same girl that I met in the church earlier that day. And the look she gave me told me that she recognized me as well.
